Concurrent academic and vocational developments for global integration

Youth College International (YC International) has rolled out a Vocational Baccalaureate Programme (VB Programme) for secondary 3 / 4 students with design or engineering career aspirations, to offer them a new articulation pathway. Emphasizing academic and vocational developments in parallel, it provides students with a viable choice between further study and full-time employment. Upon graduation, students would reach an academic level qualifying them for entry to bachelor programmes conducted locally and abroad. Alternatively, they could first take up a Higher Diploma education, followed by a bachelor programme. Innovative and multifaceted, the VB Programme flexibly supports student interests and needs with cross-disciplinary elements incorporated to provide participants with overseas learning and exchange opportunities and groom them into creative, introspective, confident and responsible citizens.


 

Nurturing 21^st century talents

With frenetic developments of the economy and technology, applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) have infiltrated into every facet of our lives. Catering to increasing demand for such knowledge and global education trends, VTC has set up a STEM Education Centre to strengthen teaching and learning of STEM disciplines, through development of varied technological applications, combined with its state-of-the-art teaching facilities. The centre also showcases several inspiring scientific and technological projects developed by VTC students while hosting various STEM workshops and mega competitions to strengthen the motivation among the younger generation to learn related subjects and to provide support in STEM education for primary and secondary schools.


 

Raising skills and broadening horizons

Dubbed the ‘Skill Olympics’, WorldSkills Competition, the world’s biggest vocational education and skills excellent event, is a biennial contest that brings about 1,300 talented young people from some 60 countries and regions together to compete in over 50 skills competitions. It also gives students the opportunity to broaden their horizons, enrich their knowledge, hone their determination through competition, absorb valuable experiences and raise the standards of their vocational skills. Since 1997, the VTC team has won 2 Gold, 1 Silver, 5 Bronze prizes and 46 Medallions for Excellence.


 

Nurturing culinary talents well-versed in international cuisines

ICI, a VTC culinary institute after the Chinese Culinary Institute, offers a wide range of quality professional culinary programmes covering European, Mediterranean, American, Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines. It also provides wine related and international theme park and event management programmes to groom aspiring youths for career development in the culinary, wine and hospitality industry in order to strengthen Hong Kong’s competitiveness. Located in Pokfulam, the institute is equipped with a comprehensive array of training facilities, including training kitchens, Culinarium - demonstration kitchen, Café Manson and Wine Forum, to name a few.
 

The design of the new campus is inspired by a ‘salt crystal’ and it will be operational in late 2018.


 

Vocational niche degree programmes for work-ready graduates

THEi is a VTC member institution offering vocationally-oriented degree programmes with industry attachments. Its new campus in Chai Wan officially launched in 2018 is housed in a twin-tower building that provides a dynamic and engaging learning environment for Faculties of Design and Environment, and Management and Hospitality. Among its distinctive features is a spacious Learning Commons on the first floor to encourage exchange of innovative ideas and inspiring discussions among students of diverse academic interests. Another highlight is a large greenhouse, which not only establishes the institute’s ecofriendly credentials, but also offers hands-on learning opportunities for the Horticulture and Landscape Management programmes.
