    Dorsett Hospitality International supports I&T school-business collaborations
     
    With the generous donation from Dorsett Hospitality International (“DHI”), the VTC’s inaugural “Innovation Award & Seed Fund Scheme” was launched in the academic year 2021/22.  The Scheme aims to unlock Vocational Training Council (VTC) higher diploma students’ innovative ideas in their final year projects, and selected projects receive funding for research and further development.

    This year’s finalists covered products for 8 sectors, including medical, retail, hospitality, finance, new energy, transportation, sports and elderly wellness & health. Judging Panel reviewed the projects according to their level of innovation, practicality, market potential, commercial value or community impact, etc. in the final pitching held in June.  Two teams were given the Gold Awards and would receive a seed fund to enhance their products to a marketable level within 6 months.

    DHI believes in supporting education for innovation, and investing in and grooming young innovators to create a better future.  VTC Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre (“ITCC”) located at IVE(Morrison Hill) aims to nurture young talents and foster an innovation and entrepreneurial culture.  With the VTC and DHI collaboration, ITCC offers a platform for students to bring innovation to marketable solutions to the community and industry.

    In recognition of DHI’s generous donation and support, the VTC named ITCC as "VTC Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre powered by Dorsett Hospitality International.     The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships Vocational Education Scholarship Awardee Sharing
     
    “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships - Vocational Education Scholarship Awardee Sharing Session 2022” was held successfully on 1 September 2022 at the Happy Valley Stand, Happy Valley Racecourse.  Ms Winnie Yip, Executive Manager, Charities (Grant Making – Arts, Culture, Heritage and Talent Development) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, encouraged students to pursue their dreams with passion and step up to serve our communities.   Mr Antony Wong, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Social Career, was invited as a guest speaker to share his journey and experience in founding the tech venture, Social Career, and to encourage students to stay perseverance during tough time and be empathetic to build a caring society.
     
    Two alumni scholarship awardees also shared their experience of grasping new opportunities.  Ms Kristin Chan shared her personal development in art and  work presented in Art Basel in Switzerland last year.  Mr Allen Fung shared his experience of career change.   Ms Winnie Ngan, Director of the Institutional Advancement Office of VTC, expressed her sincere gratitude for the generosity of the Hong Kong Jockey Club  and encouraged students to contribute to the development of Hong Kong.  Since 2016/17, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships have supported more than 80 graduates from the Diploma of Vocational Education to pursue further studies at Higher Diploma and also 18 graduates of Higher Diploma to pursue further studies at overseas degree programmes in the fields of Aerospace, Marine, Environmental, Architecture, Design and Hospitality.

    Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association together with the China Development Bank HK Branch Donate to VTC in Supporting VPET for Young Students
     
    The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association (HKCEA) together with the China Development Bank (CDB) Hong Kong Branch has generously donated to the Vocational Training Council (VTC) to support professional vocational and skills training for young people in Hong Kong.

    Mr ZHANG Xialing, the Vice-Chairmen and President of HKCEA cum Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Charitable Foundation, together with Mr LI Xiguang, the Chief Executive of the CDB Hong Kong Branch, presented the donation to the VTC on 22 June.  With the donation and their inspiring speeches, they hope to motivate young people to thrive in today’s competitive world, and at the same time, celebrate the achievements and development milestones of vocational education during the special celebration of the HKSAR 25th anniversary.

    Mr Donald TONG, GBS, the Executive Director of the VTC, expressed appreciation to the HKCEA and CDB for their staunch support and encouraged our students to contribute to the betterment of society through their professional skills and knowledge.

    IT Discipline Graduation Project Exhibition 2022 and Awards Presentation Ceremony of Future-ready Talent Incubation Program
     
    The Future-ready Talent Incubation Program ("the Program"), sponsored by J.P. Morgan, was launched in 2018 to help over 600 Higher Diploma students from VTC pursue careers in the innovation, technology and digital industries.  With 280+ hours of work placement, training and workshops, the Program is poised to help address Hong Kong’s demand for digital talent as the territory looks to transform itself into a smart city.
     
    In recognition of the outstanding performance of the students and to share their learning outcomes, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Information Technology (IT) Discipline held the "IT Discipline Graduation Project Exhibition 2022 and Awards Presentation Ceremony of Future-ready Talent Incubation Program" on 7 June 2022 at the Bright Future Hall on the IVE (Morrison Hill) Campus, highlighting projects that won the "Best Performance Award" and "Best Report and Presentation Award" of the Program in this academic year
     
    At the ceremony, Ms Harshika PATEL, CEO of J.P. Morgan Hong Kong, summarised the outstanding achievements of the Program for the past years and congratulated all students with the best of luck in their career development.  VTC once again expressed its heartfelt thanks to J.P. Morgan for its full support in nurturing the innovation and technology professionals of tomorrow.

    HK Electric Bursaries - 
    Supporting 1 000+ Deserving Students over 20 years
     
    We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd. for their long-standing support over the past 20 years to the Vocational Training Council, especially to our deserving engineering students with financial difficulties.  This year, another cohort of students has received timely support from the Bursaries
     
    As the pandemic’s fifth wave raged over Hong Kong and caused havoc to our livelihood, the Bursaries had indeed alleviated the financial burdens of many students and their families.  With the aid, students were able to continue their studies and pay for their living expenses; and some purchased online learning equipment to complete their assignments during this challenging period.  

     
     “As a recipient of the Bursaries, I feel fortunate & grateful as it surely helped me during the pandemic.  Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.  I look forward to being able to give back to society once I begin my career.”

    Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship Supports Students to Pursue University Degree
     
    2022 marks the seventh year of the Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship.  The Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship Awardees Sharing Session was held in live webcast on 13 May.  Rotary members, awardees and VTC representatives witnessed and celebrated the achievement and joy of the awardees.
     
    The Executive Director of the VTC, Mr Donald TONG, GBS, encouraged the awardees to extend their helping hands to serve the community while making good use of the scholarship for developing their vocational profession.  The District Governor of Rotary International District 3450 (Rotary), Mr Keith CHOW, highlighted the yearly theme of Rotary “Serve to Change Lives” and recommended the awardees to lay a solid foundation of interpersonal skills, problem solving skills and resilience so as to serve the others.
     
    Three awardees shared their valuable experiences of VPET learning and community services.  One of the awardees, Billy CHEUNG, has been receiving the scholarships for four years in a row since AY2018/19 that supported him to complete the programmes of the Diploma of Foundation Studies and Higher Diploma.  Billy is currently studying the Degree programme of Sports and Recreation Management.  He was grateful to the support of the scholarships along his development in VPET pathway.

    Industry Webinar Addresses the Development of Creative Industries in the Post-Pandemic Era


    The co-hosted webinar by the Vocational Training Council (VTC) and The Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries (PVCHK) under the Yeung Kin Man Youth Industrial Incubation Programme – Development of Creative Industries in the Post-Pandemic Era was successfully held on 21 April 2022.  We are very honoured to have our guest speakers, Mr Ivan Fung, General Manager of JIE Technology Company Ltd. and Creative Director of Ubivox Ltd., and Mr Nicholas Lai, General Manager of Pro-Technic Machinery Ltd., to share their valuable experience and insights about the latest market development of the creative industry and ESG initiatives with VTC students.
     
    This webinar was facilitated by Ms Ami Sin, Vice President of PVCHK, making the event more fruitful.  Over 150 participants from the VTC, PVCHK and industrial sectors joined the webinar and were greatly benefited!

    The 17th Hong Kong Housing Society Award

     
    With the support from the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS), VTC students were granted the HKHS Award for the 17th consecutive year.  The HKHS Award aims to support talent development for the housing and elderly-care industries of Hong Kong, by recognising students with outstanding academic performance in related disciplines, while providing financial assistance to those in need.
     
    The HKHS Award presentation ceremony was successfully held on 22 January with a total of 48 students from THEi, IVE and HKDI bestowed with this meaningful award.  The ceremony was held in hybrid mode again this year, with pre-recorded portraits of awardees and live streaming of the actual event with key representatives. Awardees were able to share their joy with their families and friends via the online platform.

    HKDI & IVE(LWL) Students’ Union Bursary -
    Caring for Peers and Spread the Spirit of Mutual Help

     
    Grateful appreciation to the Hong Kong Design Institute and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee) Students’ Union for making another generous donation to continue the Student Union’s Bursary Scheme, providing timely assistance to needy students during the disruptive pandemic period.  With the much-needed assistance, students can be relieved from their financial burdens and continue their studies, moving toward their goals.
     
    Since the Bursary inception in 2020, hundreds of students have been assisted, and there will be more to come in the coming academic years.  The donation has again sowed the seeds of giving in those supported by this timely bursary; more importantly, it helps spread the care and mutual support within the campus and cultivate a new generation of students with compassion and empathy.

    CLP Award for VPET Students 2021/22 

     
    Thanks to the CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP) for its continued and generous support to the CLP Award for VPET Students (Award).   Each recipient will receive $10,000 each year supporting their learning expenses during Higher Diploma study in the VTC. In AY2021/22, a total of 75 Year-1 and 75 Year-2 students were granted the Award in January 2022.  Since the inception of the Award, 225 awards have been granted. 
     
    The CLP supports training the professional talents for the energy sector to meet Hong Kong development needs.  The Award opens to financially needy students studying power engineering related higher diploma programmes in VTC, and aims to assist them in pursuing vocational and professional education and training (VPET) studies and enhances their upward mobility.

    Drs. Richard Charles & Esther Yewpick Lee Charitable Foundation
    Vocational & Professional Education and Training (VPET) Scholarship Scheme

     
    Continuing its staunch support to Vocational & Professional Education and Training (VPET), Drs. Richard Charles and Esther Yewpick Lee Charitable Foundation kindly donated yet another fund to support a new VPET Scholarship Scheme benefiting Higher Diploma students starting from 2020/21 academic year.

    The VPET Scholarship Scheme entails a Scholarship for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students to pursue further studies at degree level albeit their financial circumstances and an Outstanding Industrial Attachment Award (OIAA), which aided financially needy students who have performed exceptionally well in their industrial attachment.

    A total of 105 awardees, 5 for the NCS Scholarship and 100 for the OIAA, were awarded in 2020/21 academic year.  The Scheme opens to financially needy students who gave their best to achieve good performance in the VPET pathways and support deserving students for upward mobility.

    Outstanding Industrial Attachment Scholarships Presentation Ceremony cum VTC Design Education Fund Donors Appreciation Ceremony 2021

     
    The Outstanding Industrial Attachment Scholarships Presentation Ceremony cum VTC Design Education Fund Donors Appreciation Ceremony was held at the Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre of IVE (Morrison Hill) in the form of live-broadcast on 18 November 2021.  A total of 390 students with outstanding performance in their industrial attachments were awarded with scholarships worth $1.95 million.  We were delighted to have Dr Allen SHI Lop-tak, BBS, MH, JP, the President of The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong officiated at the online ceremony.  Dr SHI shared his experience with the awardees, and encouraged them to unleash their creativity and agility in the fast-changing digital era.  With the generous support from the industry partners and employers, more than 4,000 students had been awarded with the Scholarship since its inception in 2007.

    Re-donation from Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation for Bursary and Scholarship and Naming of “Tai Ning Conference Rooms” 

     
    Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation has been a staunch supporter of VTC to develop Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) since 2013, including the establishment of “Wu Jieh Yee Bursary” and supporting the development of the Chinese medicine pharmacy laboratory “Herbal Heritage Hub” at Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi). This year, the Foundation continued to support VTC needy students through “Wu Jieh Yee Bursary” with a further donation of HK$4.5 Million. In addition, “Wu Ho Loo Ning Scholarship” was set up to support Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (DVB) students of Youth College International to articulate to the degree studies in THEi to progress upwards along the VPET articulation pathway.  
     
    In recognition of the long-standing support from the Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation, the twin conference rooms of the VTC Tower were named as “Tai Ning Conference Rooms” in memory of the late Dr. and Mrs. Wu Jieh Yee. The Naming Ceremony was held on 29 Oct 2021. Dr. Philip Wu, BBS, JP, Secretary of the Foundation, as well as Mr. Jason Wu and Mr. Victor Chan, Governors of the Foundation attended the event and met the students, parents and teachers. Mr. Jason Wu appreciated the multiple pathways offered by the VTC through the think-and-do learning approach and it aligned with the mission of the Charitable Foundation of promoting education. In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Eric Yim, the Deputy Chairman of the VTC, thanked the Foundation for the continuous support to VPET development of VTC. He encouraged VTC students to inherit the positive spirit of the late Dr Wu Jieh Yee and contribute to society with their professionalism.

    Bright Future Charitable Foundation – Outstanding Toy Design Scholarship

     
    With the generous donation from Dr Roy Chung Chi Ping, the “Bright Future Charitable Foundation – Outstanding Toy Design Scholarship” is established in 2020 to recognise students’ excellence in toy design and outstanding academic performance in their studies of Higher Diploma in Product Design in the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI).  
     
    The judging panel of the Scholarship is comprised of Dr Chung, Mr David Yip, a seasoned entrepreneur from the toy industry and the academic team of product design of HKDI. The selection presentations were held on 19 October 2021 at HKDI, during which valuable feedback and insights were exchanged for the betterment of design enhancements and product commercialization. Ten students who demonstrated potential in their design talents during their presentations before the judging panel were each awarded a scholarship with amount ranging from $6,000 to HK$25,000.  
     
    The Scholarship is entrusted to benefit 30 students for three cohorts starting from the academic year 2020/21.

    The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships Vocational Education Scholarship Awardee Sharing

     
    “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships - Vocational Education Scholarship Awardee Sharing Session 2021” was held successfully on 7 September 2021 at the Happy Valley Stand, Happy Valley Racecourse.  The awardees mingled with fellow scholars from current and previous cohorts, while three new awardees orchestrated the event as the Masters of Ceremony.  Ms Winnie Yip, Executive Manager, Charities (Grant Making – Arts, Culture, Heritage and Talent Development) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, encouraged students to pursue their dreams with passion and return proud to serve our communities.  Ms Bowie Lam, Founder and Executive Director of Teen’s Key Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Chicago Booth Executive MBA Scholar (Cohort 2018) was invited as a guest speaker to share her beliefs and quest of establishing an NGO helping underprivileged teens.

    Two VTC alumni who completed their bachelor degree programmes overseas under the Scholarship also shared their life learning from the Scholarship.  Mr Martin Chan, engineering graduate of University of Sheffield, and Mr Larry Tse, architecture design graduate of Oxford Brookes University, revealed their secrets of maximizing exposures in their study journeys.  Ms Winne Ngan, Director of the Institutional Advancement Office of VTC, expressed her sincere gratitude for the generosity of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.  Since 2016/17, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships have supported more than 70 graduates from the Diploma of Vocational Education to pursue further studies at Higher Diploma and also 15 graduates of Higher Diploma to pursue further studies at overseas degree programmes in the fields of Aerospace, Marine, Environmental, Architecture, Design and Hospitality.

    Chevalier Group Scholarship for Outstanding Engineering Students

     
    The Chevalier Group, established in 2018, aims to groom local talents in the fields of engineering and construction. It was an evidence of the industry’s recognition of vocational and professional education and training (VPET) and the pressing needs for manpower equipped with professional knowledge and skills.  

    This year, 40 outstanding engineering students from the Diploma of Vocational Education and Higher Diploma programmes were awarded a scholarship of HK$10,000 and HK$40,000 each respectively.  A total of 120 students in the areas of civil engineering, surveying, building services engineering, electrical engineering, and computer and electronic engineering were benefited from the scholarship since its establishment. 

    VTC is thankful to the Chevalier Group for offering scholarships to recognize the achievements of students and training the younger generation who will in turn help driving the industry sustainable development.  Chevalier Group has been a long-standing partner of VTC by providing internship opportunities for students in various areas, such as electrical and mechanical engineering, lift maintenance and environmental engineering, and allowing them to grasp practical skills for their future career development.

    HSBC Speak for Success Programme 2020/21

     
    The HSBC Speak for Success Programme 2020/21 was successfully completed in June 2021 benefiting more than 6,000 VTC students. With more than 9 months of training in personal image, presentation skills, public speaking, and experience sharing sessions from professionals, the Programme aimed to cultivate students to become vivid, confident and keen speakers, and to equip them with communication and collaboration skills that would help them excel in workplace. This year, several new elements were introduced to correspond with the theme “Employability for the 21st Century”, including “Use of Information Technology and Media”, “Enhancing Workplace Competencies” and “Greater Bay Area Exploration”.

    The HSBC Speak for Success Programme Presentation Competition cum Awards Presentation Ceremony was held on 18 June 2021 at the VTC Halls of Residence (Tsing Yi).  A total of 15 finalists competed for different awards in English, Cantonese and Putonghua categories. Furthermore, a total of 80 students were also presented with the Best Performance and Best Improvement Awards. 

    With the sponsorship and longstanding support from the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, the Programme has trained more than 20,000 VTC students since its establishment in 2014.

    China Candlelight Educational Fund Enriches Students' Learning Experience

     
    Continuing the long-standing support to the Childcare, Elderly and Community Services Discipline of IVE, China Candlelight Educational Fund further extends its generosity to all VTC financially needy students starting from this academic year, enabling less-privileged students to participate in various experiential learning activities in the Greater China Region.  The activities would include overseas internship, exchange, study tour as well as service-learning trip.  The donation would help broaden students’ exposure, strengthen their understanding of the development in China and enhance their personal development and employability.

    Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship Awardee Sharing Session 2020/21


    Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship Awardee Sharing Session 2020/21 was held for the first time in live webcast on 10 June 2021, during which the donors met the awardees online and shared their joy and learning experience. The Executive Director of the VTC, Mrs Carrie Yau, thanked the Rotary International District 3450 (RID 3450) for the continuous support to VTC and Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) for years. The District Governor of Rotary International District 3450, Dr Eric CHAK, encouraged awardees to seize the opportunity to develop their expertise as well as to master the use of advanced technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, and give back to the society in future.  During the event, three awardees from Diploma of Foundation Studies shared their remarkable learning experiences in VPET study and caring actions in the community after class, such as visits to the singleton elderly and participation in eco-friendly activities.
     
    In recognition of the contribution of RID 3450, in addition to “Rotary International District 3450 Learning Resources Centre” at IVE(Shatin), a recognition plaque has newly set up at the campus of THEi(Chai Wan) this year to recognize the major donors who supported the Scholarship over the years.

    CLP Power Engineering Laboratory

    CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP) has generously sponsored to support the construction and establishment of a new power engineering laboratory in the Waterfront Annex of IVE (Haking Wong). The laboratory is housed with innovative technologies and advanced training facilities to nurture new generation of power engineering talent, equipping them with smart power grid and high voltage know-how to propel and support the transformation of Hong Kong into a low-carbon smart city.
     
    To appreciate CLP’s generous contribution, VTC has named the laboratory as “CLP Power Engineering Laboratory”.  The laboratory was officially unveiled on 1 April 2021.  Secretary for Innovation and Technology Mr Alfred SIT Wing-hang (third from right), Chairman of CLP Power Mr William MOCATTA (second from left), Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings Mr Richard LANCASTER (first from left), VTC Chairman Mr Tony TAI (second from right) and VTC Executive Director Mrs Carrie YAU (first from right) officiated the opening ceremony of the laboratory.

    Awardee Sharing Session for Mr. K. S. Cheng Memorial Scholarship


    Awardee Sharing Session for Mr K S Cheng Memorial Scholarship was successfully held on March 29, 2021 at the Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre in IVE(Morrison Hill).  During the event, awardees eagerly shared their journey of reaching their self-set learning goals and the invaluable motivation and encouragement gained through their achievements.  Unfortunately, due to the social distancing measures, some of the awardees were arranged to share their learning experience via a pre-recorded video.  Having heard all the incredible stories that brought up happy tears, all the awardees expressed their heartfelt appreciation and deepest gratitude to the sponsor - Ms Vina Cheng (Left 6), with a round of thundering applause.   Ms Winnie Ngan, Director of the Institutional Advancement Office of VTC (Left 7), also gave a warm and inspiring speech and reminded students never to stop chasing their dreams and counting their blessings from donors and guardians in life.

    With the generous support from Ms Cheng since 2012, many VTC Higher Diploma students have been able to pursue their dreams following self-set goals.  Through this meaningful Scholarship, awardees can develop self-initiative, discipline and responsibility to be a trailblazer for their future.  Till 2021, almost 300 students have been sponsored by the Scholarship to work fiercely toward their targets in reaching their dreams.

    The 16th Hong Kong Housing Society Award

    Thanks to the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) for granting the HKHS Award to VTC students for the 16th consecutive year. The Award aims to support talent development for the housing and elderly-care industries of Hong Kong and recognises students with outstanding academic performance in related studies as well as providing financial assistance to those in need.

Despite of the pandemic, the award presentation ceremony was successfully held in a hybrid mode for the first time, with pre-recorded portraits of awardees and live-streaming of the actual event with key representatives, awardees were able to share their joy with their families and friends via the online platform.

    Outstanding Industrial Attachment Scholarship (OIAS) Award Ceremony cum VTC Design Education Fund Donors Appreciation Ceremony 2020
     
    The Outstanding Industrial Attachment Scholarship (OIAS) Award Ceremony cum VTC Design Education Fund Donors Appreciation Ceremony was held in Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre at IVE(Morrison Hill) in the form of live-broadcast on 27 November 2020. A total of 392 outstanding students were awarded with scholarships worth $1.9 million.  We were delighted to have Dr. Dennis NG Wang-pun, SBS, BBS, MH, the President of The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong officiated at the online ceremony.  Dr. NG shared his experience with the awardees, and encouraged them to continue to improve their skills and work hard without shy away from failure. With the generous donations from all the industrial partners and supportive employers, more than 3,700 students have been awarded since the inception of the award in 2007.

    Outstanding student project sponsored by J.P. Morgan showcased in the Launching Ceremony of Innovation & Technology Co-creation Centre

     

    With the support of J.P. Morgan, the Future-ready Talent Incubation Program has supported over 250 students to undertake 280 hours of work placement and conduct problem-based industrial projects since its launch in 2018.  In the Launching Ceremony of Innovation & Technology Co-creation Centre situated at IVE (Morrison Hill) on 9 October, various outstanding student projects, including the “Immersive Kit” which won the Best Report and Presentation Award of the Program, are showcased to the guests.
     

    Immersive Kit is a portable VR/AR development framework riding on the smartphone platform.  Its AI-powered human tracking technology and advanced interaction ability can reduce the development time on animating the VR/AR human-like-character for various commercial applications, including industrial training simulation.

    CLP Award for VPET Students
     
    We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP) for its generous donation for setting up the “CLP Award for VPET Students”.  Funded by CLP’s Community Energy Saving Fund, the Award aims to assist financially disadvantaged students to pursue vocational and professional education and training (VPET) studies, thus enhancing their upward mobility.  Targeting students studying VTC’s power engineering related programmes, CLP hopes that the Award could help train a group of professional talents for the energy sector that meet Hong Kong’s development needs.  Up to 75 students will be benefitted in AY2020/21.



     
    HSBC Vocational Education Scholarship
     
    Supported by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, HSBC Vocational Education Scholarship has been offered for the sixth year in a row since 2015 to recognise remarkable performance of VTC Higher Diploma students in pursuing vocational and professional education and training (VPET) in the areas of  academic achievement, vocational aspirations and commitment to Hong Kong.   Scholarship application for AY2020/21 has just started.  Up to 20 students from various academic disciplines will be awarded the scholarship.










     
          
    TrustTomorrow - The Swire Sky-Flyer Work-integrated Learning Programme
     
    With the generous donation of over HK$5 million from the Swire Trust - TrustTomorrow, The Swire Sky-Flyer Work-integrated Learning Programme (“The Swire Sky-Flyer”), was launched starting from AY2020/21 for 3 years.  
     
    “The Swire Sky-Flyer” enables VTC students to enhance their professional knowledge and to equip themselves for their future careers through a series of learning activities, including enriched workplace learning and practice, professional experience sharing and overseas training and learning exchanges, etc.  The programme also provides awards and scholarships to students with outstanding performance and subsistence allowance for work placement to financial needy students.  Around 1,200 students with career aspiration in the specialisation of Engineering, Aviation Logistics and Services, and Hospitality will be benefitted from the programme.

    Chevalier Group Scholarship for Outstanding Engineering Students


    Forty students from the VTC Engineering Discipline have been awarded the Chevalier Group Scholarship, which aims to groom local talents in the fields of engineering and construction. The Scholarship was evidence of the industry’s recognition of vocational and professional education and training (VPET) and the market needs for well-trained manpower equipped with professional knowledge and skills.

    In AY 2018-2020, a total of 80 outstanding students were awarded a scholarship each of HK$10,000 or HK$40,000 depending on their study levels which are Higher Diploma and Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) programmes in the areas of Civil Engineering, Surveying, Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer and Electronic Engineering.

    VTC is thankful to the Chevalier Group for offering scholarships to recognize the achievements of our students and to help train the young generation who will in turn help drive the sustainable development of the engineering and construction industry.  Chevalier Group has been a long-standing partner of the VTC by providing internship opportunities for our students in areas such as electrical and mechanical engineering, lift maintenance, and environmental engineering, and allowing our students to grasp practical skills for their future career development.

    The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships Vocational Education Scholarship Awardee Online Sharing

    “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships Vocational Education Scholarship Awardee Sharing Session 2020” was held first time in the form of live-broadcast this year, during which all awardees enjoyed the exchanges through this virtual gathering.  The online session with the three new degree scholarship recipients of this year orchestrating the event as M.C.; both awardees from Hong Kong and overseas interacted with each other beyond boundaries.  Ms Winnie Yip, Executive Manager, Charities (Grant Making – Arts, Culture, Heritage and Talent Development) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, encouraged students to pursue their dreams with passion in their professional development.  An industry expert in digital and social media marketing, Mr Ralph Szeto, the Director of 2 Likes was also invited as a guest to share his valuable career development pathway, students gained many insights from his inspiring story.  
     
    In addition, two VTC alumni who completed their degree programmes under the HKJC degree scholarship also presented in the event.  Ms Winnie Lo, graduated from a design programme of the Central Saint Martins in the U. K.; and Mr Marco Ma, graduated of an engineering degree from the University of Plymouth, revealed their secrets of maximizing their exposures in their overseas study journeys.  Ms Winne Ngan, Director of the Institutional Advancement Office of VTC expressed her sincere gratitude for the generosity of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.  Since 2016/17, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships have supported more than 50 graduates from the Diploma of Vocational Education in pursuit of Higher Diploma and also 12 Higher Diploma graduates to pursue further studies at the undergraduate level in overseas institutions in the fields related to Aerospace, Marine, Environmental, Architecture, Design and Hospitality.

    HSBC Speak for Success Programme – Nurture Students’ Potential to Succeed  
     
    The HSBC Speak for Success Programme 2019/20 was successfully completed in June 2020 benefited more than 5000 IVE & HKDI students. With more than nine months of training including personal image, presentation skills, public speaking, experience sharing with professionals and other team-building activities, the Programme aims to cultivate students to become vivid, confident and keen speakers, and to equip them with communication and collaboration skills that would help them excel in the world of work.
     
    A finale event - HSBC Speak for Success Speech Contest, was organized for the students to bring their learning further and challenge themselves. The finale was held on 10 June with 15 finalists to compete for 3 Awards in English, Cantonese and Putonghua categories at the Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre in IVE(Morrison Hill).
     
    To encourage and recognize the commendable effort and positive attitude of all participating students to become a “Better Me”, a total of 80 students were also awarded the “Best Performance Award” and “Best Improvement Award” during the online Ceremony on 26 June.  
     
    Thanks for the sponsorship and longstanding support from The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, the Programme has trained more than 10,000 VTC students since 2014.

    Tin Ka Ping Foundation Donates to Enrich VTC Students' Learning Experience
     

    The Vocational Training Council (VTC) has received a donation of HK$3 million from Tin Ka Ping Foundation (the Foundation) to support student development programmes to offer enhanced learning experience, promote global citizenship and uplift professional skills of VTC students.  Mr Sam Tin Hing-sin, Chairman of the Foundation Board, Mr Tin Wing Sin, Director of the Foundation and VTC Executive Director Mrs Carrie Yau officiated at the Cheque Presentation Ceremony held on 30 July at the Hong Kong Design Institute.

    Riding on the momentum of the 8th Matching Grant Scheme, the donation will benefit more VTC students to widen their horizon through various learning exploration and discovery opportunities. Supported programmes include service-learning trips, whole-person development activities and discipline-led exchanges held in China and overseas countries such as Cambodia, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia, and Romania.

    Council of Health and Beauty Scholarship to award Outstanding Performance Diploma of Vocational Education Students

    Sincere thanks to the Council of Health and Beauty Limited for setting up the Council of Health and Beauty Scholarship scheme for five years started from AY2018/19. Two outstanding students of Diploma of Vocational Education (Beauty Care) were awarded in this year. 
     
    Council of Health and Beauty Scholarship aims to give recognition to the students who have demonstrated outstanding performance in academic area and achievements or talent in non-academic fields for further develop their talent and potential.
     
    Thanks to Ms Joanne Chan, Chairman of the Council of Health and Beauty Limited, for attended the Scholarship Presentation Ceremony on 4 July 2019 and presented the Certificate of Award to the two awardees.

    VTC alumnus gives back to alma mater

    Sincerest thanks to our alumnus Ms Tam to give back to the alma mater. Established in 2017/18, the Tam Luen Charitable Foundation award scheme aims to encourage and recognise students with significant progress and improvement. 
     
    The Best Progress Award is not only a prize but also a token of encouragement and recognition on students who have demonstrated significant improvement in academic results, behaviour and other achievements so as to encourage them to continue their hard work and make progressively achievement.

    This year, a total of 17 students studying at Youth College were awarded. They received the Certificate of Award in the Scholarship Presentation Ceremony on 4th July 2019.

    Heartfelt thanks to Drs Richard Charles & Esther Yewpick Lee Charitable Foundation to set up scholarships scheme starting from 2017/18 academic year to recognise and support deserving Diploma students. 
     
    The Outstanding Performance Scholarship and Best Progress Award compliment students of Youth College on their achievement or improvement in respect of academic performance and vocational skills. A total of 120 students were awarded the scholarships among the two years. A scholarships presentation ceremony for 2018/19 academic year was held on 4 July 2019.
