Jewellery - Jewellery Design and Technology
The jewellery industry in Hong Kong is one of the six largest export industries among all manufacturing industries and the largest earner in the world in terms of output. Industry demand is so great that the graduate employment is almost guaranteed. They will work as design professions in the jewellery industry and eventually become fully fledged jewellery designers. They may also join as jewellery designer-makers, quality controllers, merchandisers, jewellery supervisors or jewellery marketing executives, etc.

Higher Diploma in Jewellery Design and Technology
Study Arrangement
The first year (The first 4 semesters) |
Participants will study the full-time Higher Diploma in Product, Furniture and Jewellery Design (Subject Group). |
The second to third years |
Participants will be employed by the participating companies as apprentices starting from the fifth semester. The employer will sponsor the trainee to study the Higher Diploma (HD) in Jewellery Design and Technology programme at HKDI for one day per week. |
Allowance & Salary*
The second to third years |
Participants will receive a total of $30,800 Industry Incentive Allowance and $54,000 government subsidy from their employers and the government respectively. Given a guaranteed monthly salary not less than $9,000#, the total monthly income will be above $10,000. |

* Mode of issuing subsidy and Government Allowance may vary across trades and industries.
# For apprentices who join the VTC Earn & Learn Scheme on or after 1 April 2024, the guaranteed monthly salary will be adjusted to $10,000.
& For apprentices who join the VTC Earn & Learn Scheme on or after 1 April 2024, they will be entitled to the Monthly Apprenticeship Training Allowance of $1,000 per month during the apprenticeship.
Tuition Fees
- Participants will need to pay the tuition fees for the first 4 semesters of HD programme.
- Employers will sponsor the tuition fees for the second and third year (from semester 5) of HD programme.
Entry Requirement
- Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language and Chinese Language; or
- VTC Foundation Diploma (Level 3) / Diploma of Foundation Studies; or
- VTC Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education; or
- Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma Yi Jin ; or Equivalent.
