VTC member institutions Info Days showcases professional training and multiple progression pathways
Starting from November to early December, member institutions of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), namely the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), the Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI), the International Culinary Institute (ICI), and Youth College (please refer to Annex for details) will organise Info Days. By joining campus tours, taster activities, programme briefings and parents’ talks, students and parents will get to know more about the diversified progression pathways made available ranging from Degree to Higher Diploma and Diploma. Interested students can apply online for the full-time post-secondary 6 programmes offered by VTC member institutions starting 23 November.THEi (Tsing Yi) and THEi (Chai Wan) will hold Info Days on 23-24 November and 30 Nov-1 December respectively to introduce the vocationally-oriented degree programmes of THEi, including those covered by the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP) of the Government.
Current cohort of Secondary 6 students taking the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) can apply for the 12 degree programmes of THEi subsidised by SSSDP through Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS), covering the following study areas: Fashion Design, Product Design, Landscape Architecture, Culinary Arts and Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Management, Horticulture and Landscape Management, Surveying, Sports and Recreation Management, Building Services Engineering, Multimedia Technology and Innovation, and Information and Communications Technology. Local students admitted to these programmes will be entitled to an annual subsidy amounting to HK$41,700 or HK$72,800.
THEi Info Days will provide a variety of expert seminars and lifehack workshops for students and parents. Admission is free. Among others, “A Taste of Building Information Modelling (BIM) Basic Modelling Workshop”, showcasing the hot BIM technology, and “DIY Rainbow Noodles”, using noodle machine to prepare colourful noodles with natural food pigments extracted from different plant sources will be held at THEi (Tsing Yi). THEi (Chai Wan) will host a workshop on landscape architecture that enables visitors to experience the design processes of outdoor green space and another workshop on utilising advanced Augmented Reality (AR)/ Virtual Reality (VR) technologies and 3D modelling in product design.
Separately, various IVE campuses and HKDI that offer full-time higher diploma programmes will take turns to launch their respective Info Days starting 23 November till 1 December for two consecutive Fridays and Saturdays. Programme talks and taster activities will be offered to apprise the public of the enriching learning experiences of vocational and professional education and training (VPET). Students can apply online for programmes their choice onsite.
Meanwhile, “5 star” Experience – Accommodation and Food and Beverage Service organised by IVE (Haking Wong) deepens students’ knowledge of hotel and housekeeping operations. The IVE Information Technology Discipline will organise in IVE (Sha Tin) workshops on “360 Video and VR Production” and “Smart Home” to enable visitors to get a taste of the innovative technologies. More so, IVE Engineering Discipline will hold workshops on demonstration of Flight Control System and various Aircraft Systems in IVE (Tsing Yi).
HKDI will also offer “Integration of New Media Technologies with Game and Entertainment” workshop, enabling visitors to experience in person creative media technologies though interactive games with social media celebrities. On 1 and 2 November, HTI/CCI/ICI (Pokfulam) will organise an open house. Visitors are welcomed to tour the innovative teaching facilities of the newly-completed ICI campus such as training kitchens of different cuisines and the training café.
Youth College and Youth College (International) offer full-time Diploma of Vocational Education programmes (DVE) and Vocational Baccalaureate Programmes (VB) to Secondary 3 or above students. Youth College (International) will host Info Days on 23-24 November, showcasing the flexible project-based learning approach adopted. Youth College (Tuen Mun) will have Info Days between 30 November and 1 December, providing beauty care and hairdressing taster workshops to raise understanding of the Diploma of Vocational Education programmes among students and parents.
