The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) is a member institute of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), established in 2012. It is an innovative, professional and entrepreneurial organisation committed to greening and sustainability. THEi offers more than 20 professional "Applied Science-Oriented" degree programmes across six Academic Departments: Department of Food and Health Sciences, Department of Construction, Environment and Engineering, Department of Sport and Recreation, Department of Hospitality and Business Management, Department of Design and Architecture, and Department of Digital Innovation and Technology. These programmes cover industries with growth potential in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region. Major Duties: |
|
The appointee shall report to the Programme Leader and Head of Department, engage in teaching and related learning activities, support students in their learning, participate in academic and scholarly activities of the Derpartment, and undertake academic and administrative support services. He/she will also be responsible for experiments/projects design. |

Requirements: |
|
The successful candidate should have a recognised Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Electronic Commerce, Internet Computing, Multimedia or related fields with good professional standing. Candidate should have at least 4 years of professional working and/or teaching experience at tertiary level in data analytics, database management (SQL), python programming, R programming language, geographic information system (GIS), SimaPro software (LCA), SuperPro Designer software (Intelligen), machine learning prediction, the use of Raspberry Pi/STM32Arduino and/or experience in professional practice in the field of data science, data engineering, wireless sensor networks and internet of thing (IoT). |

He/she should have good interpersonal and communication skills; and high proficiency in English and preferably in Chinese, including Putonghua. |

Appointees are expected to be familiar with and deliver lectures on: |
|
(a) |
Enhancing query performance and efficiency in relational database |
|
(b) |
Handling transactions and restoring data after systems failure |
|
(c) |
Methods for creating and utilizing indexes in database |
|
(d) |
Process database queries in parallel to improve performance |
|
(e) |
Systems for managing and processing large amount of data, utilizing technologies such as TablePlus, Hadoop and Spark |
|
(f) |
Databases that do not utilize the traditional relational model, such as NoSQL systems |
|
(g) |
Manage the database through replication, sharding, clustering, partitioning, indexing, caching and compression |
|
(h) |
The uses and applications of ArcGIS database |

The appointee(s) may be required to perform duties at different sites and work irregular hours, shifts and on Saturdays and Sundays as necessary. |

The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. |
