VTC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus presents “Latino Romance” Concert
The VTC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Annual Concert “Latino Romance” held at the Hong Kong City Hall on 2 March was greatly appreciated by the music fans. Joined by guest performers, the performance by the Orchestra and Chorus showcased a series of classic Broadway musicals that seized the heart and applause of the house audience.The Concert was themed the passionate and rhythmic Latin music. Starting off with excerpts from the “West Side Story” musical and the opera “Carmen”, artistic director and conductor Dr Henry SHEK led the music journey with some 20 well-known songs including the famous “Copacabana” which roused the whole audience to clap to the beat.
Vocalist Fiona HUI, who sang in various famous Broadway musicals, performed with the VTC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for the musical classics and film scores like “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” and “Magic is the Moonlight”.
Fred CHENG, the famous Hong Kong singer, moved the audience with the touching love song about departure “Spanish Eyes” and the “Quizás, Quizás, Quizás” with a strong beat in his first collaboration with the Orchestra and Chorus.
The Vocational Training Council (VTC) is committed to promoting whole person development for young people. The VTC Symphony Orchestra and VTC Chorus were established in 2005 and 2009 respectively, serving as a unique cultural platform for VTC students, alumni and staff to unleash their talents in music. Since 2006, the internationally-acclaimed conductor, Henry SHEK, has been invited to be the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Orchestra. Under the baton of Shek, the Orchestra won favourable reviews for its performances. The Orchestra has given performances in Macau, Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai in the past years. The VTC Symphony Orchestra and VTC Chorus earned the reputation as the “Music Ambassador of VTC”, and often perform in major VTC events such as the Annual Reception and Graduation Ceremony.
